What’s new in LogTen Pro 4

Introducing LogTen Mobile

LogTen Mobile distills the power of it’s big brother LogTen Pro into the perfect mobile logbook companion. Add, review and update flights, view live updating totals, and track currency and duty limits, as well as certificates.

Fully customizable, and completely integrated with LogTen Pro 4 for the mac, LogTen Mobile really puts your flight time in your pocket. LogTen Mobile does not require an internet connection so you can update your logbook anywhere, check totals in the bush, or show off your type ratings at FL340!

General

• Automatic day/night calculation! If you turn on the “Auto Enter Time” for Night, the night portion of your flight will be calculated using a ton of complex trigonometry to determine sunrise/sunset information based on your actual departure and arrival times and your origin and destination.
• Smart Routes!
  Routes are now displayed as tokens, and when you start typing it will auto complete from your airport list! Just hit tab, comma, or return to complete a waypoint and start typing the next.
• Distances are now calculated along the whole route!
• Google Maps, Wikipedia, Aircraft Registries and more! In the Resource Manager you’ll find a new action menu (as well as contextual menus) that let you do everything from quickly viewing airport maps, satellite images, and airport details, to view aircraft registration data for many countries!
  
• New more powerful handling of duty times addresses the need for the majority of commercial pilots who need to track duty times that span multiple flights.
• There’s now a nice bezel status display, ala iPhoto, that shows a brief date and/or flight information as you scroll through your flights so you can quickly find what you’re looking for!
  
• New lock feature to lock data entry and prevent accidental editing.
• New default aircraft types database based on FAA data which currently includes 7,677 certificated types, so when entering a new type if it matches one in the database it will be auto filled, just like airports.
• You can now duplicate multiple flights at once. If you have a standard set of trips you fly every month you can now just select a whole batch of flights, hit duplicate and just set the dates!
• When duplicating a flight the flight number, scheduled departure and arrival times and the crew are copied.
• Images are now optimized before being saved so you can expect to see your logbook shrink, and future image additions will have a MUCH smaller impact on logbook file size.
• Auto completion is now no longer case sensitive!
• LogTen Pro uses new technologies in Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” to deliver improved performance.
• Searches using the quick search field in the toolbar are much faster.
• Enhanced Data Validation! LogTen Pro will work harder than ever to help prevent mistakes and make your life easier.
• Added support for Hours+Minutes time format.
• Added support for using the the comma decimal separator.
• Added five new custom text fields in the Notes tab for even more customization and data tracking, as well as six new custom “capacity” checkboxes in the Duties tab.

Importing

• CSV Import! You can now import CSV files directly, no need to convert to TAB delimited.
• You can now import flights that have only aircraft type information but no registration or aircraft ID.
• Airports are now auto-filled during import, and whenever you set the ICAO or IATA ID to simplify the process of getting valid airport data.
• Aircraft Type data is auto filled during import if available.
• You can now specify the date format in the import window! No more having to change your System Preferences to match the data you want to import.

Interface

• New Integrated Reports

  Now it’s even easier to access LogTen’s amazing reports, you’ll find them integrated in the main window, just switch the “View Mode” at the top!
  

• New larger status area allows you to see totals for the SELECTED flights. So just select a range of flights to see the total time for those flights.
  
• Improved display of expiring certificates.
• Mini Calendars have a new look and “stick” to the date field your modifying to reduce confusion, and when you select a date they automatically go away!
  
• Smart Group buttons have changed, the default “+” button now creates a Smart Group instead of a folder!
• Numerous minor enhancements and refinements to improve usability.

Smart Groups

• You can now duplicate Smart Groups
• Criteria display, and removal now works much better!
• Access Smart Group functions from the action (gear) menu or by right/cntrl clicking on a group.

Reports

• New integrated display for easier access.
• New KML export - See your trips on Google Earth!
• You can use Page Setup to set paper sizes and orientation.
• Reports can specify a predicate to be applied before generation. This is useful for reports like the KML report where you want to only show flights that have airports with GPS coordinates.
• Reports can now specify a default file extension for when they’re saved.
• Most paper logbook style reports now use a smaller font to display two lines of remarks
• Australian and New Zealand reports now prepend the route information in the “Details” field.
• Better support for international characters, things like accents, umlauts etc, display correctly!
• European, Swiss, and Australian reports have been tuned for printing on A4 size paper.
